In Australia, if a person is convicted of any crime that warrants a minimum 1-year prison term, this prison term IMMEDIATELY AND AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIES this person from running for ANY AND ALL PUBLIC OFFICES from local councils, up through state Legislative Assemblies and Legislative Councils and ultimately to the House of Representatives and Senate! The person is also ineligible to hold the office of Governor-General. This is AUSTRALIAN LAW and is "air-tight". It CANNOT be contravened!
