A "Ute" is a car with front cabin for driver(on right) and one passenger(on left) and a tray for carrying goods in the rear. The concept of the "ute"(abbreviation for "utility") was invented in 1938 by an Aussie who wanted a vehicle to carry pigs or wheat to market during the week and to take his mother or wife to church on Sundays.

Yeah, we have a habit of doing that, part of our laconic nature. Another of our quirks is if we encounter a boy with red hair, we nick-name him "Bluey".

No, it's DEFINITELY "Utes"! (but "Yoots" is the phonetic" pronunciation).

+Mellow Fellow, New Zealand is a separate, sovereign nation IN ITS OWN RIGHT! AND IS NOT PART OF AUSTRALIA! It is only total ignorance of Yanks and others who say NZ is part of Australia.
2
+Tolghak84, Actually that's a bit of a "roar" deal! LOL

What if you added "Sky" in parenthesis here?..... Luke (Sky)Walker....Hmmmm.......! LOL

Oh, okay! Thanks!

I'll say one last thing on the Canadian capital argument. As I've always known it to be, Canada's parliament house is located in Montreal. Federal parliaments are located in federal capital cities. Ergo, Montreal = Canadian capital.

NSW is one of 6 Australian states. The other 5 are South Australia, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia and Tasmania. There are two mainland territories. The territories should be administered by states. New Zealand may be similar to Australia(I'm in Australia, by the way) in many aspects, but NZ and Australia are separate and sovereign nations in their own right.

+#King Vtech: So who are the yanks to tell us our history then? Americans are totally ignorant in general to anything that goes on outside their borders.
1
+leloodallasmultipass, when I went to primary school here in Australia, we had American history almost rammed down our throats. By contrast I doubt you Americans even know the name of Australia's or New Zealand's capital cities. I doubt you even know Canada's capital city.
1
+leloodallasmultipass: Whether joking or not, that's the very thing I'd expect you to say! Canada is the nation, Montreal is the capital city thereof.
1
+#King Vtech, I've always known Montreal as the Capital unless it has been switched in the last 50 years since Expo '67 was held there.

Maybe we should hear from a Canadian! Ottowa just doesn't cut it, neither does Calgary, They're more like state capitals rather than a federal capital, but last time I heard, Canada has provences rather than states.
1
+#King Vtech, are you Canadian? If not I cannot take your answer seriously. Ottawa is more a provincial capital than a Federal capital. In our terms it would be like saying Newcastle was the capital of NSW when in fact the NSW state capital is Sydney.

Canada and the USA share the same land mass but they are separate and distinct sovereign countries in their own rights. Canada is a member of the British Commonwealth, as is Australia and NZ, but Australia and New Zealand DO NOT share the same land mass. We are two separate countries separated by a large part of the South Pacific Ocean which lies between us, Our Kiwi cousins and we Aussies jokingly refer to it as "the ditch", and if either the Kiwis visit our country, or we visit theirs, we say we're "going across the ditch".

To see that ute in the USA is a gross insult to the brand, "Holden" because the modification to left-hand-drive was done by an outside company. Such modification should've been done by Holden in Australia and NOWHERE ELSE! Yes, the Holden utes, sedans and station wagons(and even panel vans) should've been sold in the USA but MADE IN AUSTRALIA FOR EXPORT, and as far back as the Torana, Monaro and Kingswood models and the Commodore, of which line this ute is part. Holdens were far superior than Chryslers or Dodges because they were built to Australian standards which were far more strict than those of the USA.

Someone else brought it up, I just responded. Nothing more. Enough said!
1
Don't say that to a Canadian, you'll never hear the end of it!

If the Holden Ute was to be sold in America, then it should be sold AS IS! Right-hand-drive and with the HOLDEN name and trademark INTACT! To market this ute in anything other than right-hand-drive or rebrand it into the inferior Chevrolet or Pontiac brands, would be a GROSS INSULT to this ICONIC AUSTRALIAN VEHICLE!
