  1. In Australia, we DON'T use machines! We number boxes on a ballot sheet, 1 - 2 - 3 - or more depending on how many candidates are standing for any given electorate. First, second or, at a stretch, third preference candidates get a look-in on being voted into state or federal government as MLAs or MHRs(MPs). The system has worked for us for years! If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
