@RaymondHng I've been getting around this using Cyberlink Power Director. I have two versions, PD8 Ultra and PD14 Ultra. Each has the CLPV feature, which takes the VHS or Beta 4:3 aspect ratio image and converts it to 16:9 whilst retaining proportionality, meaning that people in the video DO NOT look like they've "raided their refrigerators"!

@RaymondHng I've been using Power Director by Cyberlink and accidentally stumbled across its CLPV feature after asking on another forum how old TV shows like "I Dream Of Jeannie"(Larry Hagman & Barbara Eden) had been converted to 16:9 successfully without making Larry or Barbara look like they've been stuffing themselves silly from their fridges! When the method was explained, I thought "Aha!" I must try that! So I did and it have my old Video-8 and VHS stuff a "new lease on life".

If you have Cyberlink Power Director, any version from say, 7 through to the current version, 18, you can correct the "stretched" image in two steps, correct i back to 4:3 aspect ratio, then with CLPV, restretch to 16:9 WITHOUT everyone looking like they've "raided the refrigerator!"

Aspect ratio, 4:3 to 16:9? That's where Cyberlink Power Director's CLPV system comes into play. That feature can convert 4:3 "Academy" Aspect Ratio to 16:9 Wide-screen WITHOUT making people in the video look like they've been "raiding the refrigerator"!

@RaymondHng It only trims a small amount off the top & bottom. I have used CLPV to convert old 4:3 A/R clips from VHS or Video-8 and the result was very pleasing. My one suggestion is to hold off adding titles to the video until you've completed the CLPV process, that is: 1) capture the content. 2) apply CLPV. 3) edit the content, chopping out bad bits[shaky camera, blurred shots etc]. 4) add your title. 5) render[produce] your movie.

@fulldeep7707 It's the reason why I apply the CLPV feature to any of my old analogue video content.
