  1. There's another bonus to fluorescent bulbs, they're said to not cast shadows(supposedly). So if you're trying to do a chroma-key insert of yourself doing a piece-to-camera(standing in front of a green screen), that characteristic is quite handy.

  3. I have one in my desk lamp and in my ceiling light socket. I've found them far more reliable and longer-lasting than incandescent bulbs, one brand of incandescent bulbs I tried, "Mirabella", would blow after two weeks or less(they must've been made by Philips) when you'd at least expect to get 3 months out of them. The CFL lasts several months, possibly 2 or more years.
