  1. The two formats, though competing against each other, at least avoided the stigma of being developed by the utterly incompetent Philips company. Both VHS and Beta were developed entirely by Japan-based and Japan-owned companies that had no ties whatsoever with Philips.

  2. Pronunciation: Bee-tah! The 'e' is long, not short. and while we're at it, in the brand "Zenith" that 'e' is short so the first syllable is "Zen", not Zeen. "Zed-Ee-En!"
