You even said it yourself that the prongs on your power plugs go live as soon as they're just inserted and not all the way in, this leaves an exposed portion of the prongs so send a 120+volt jolt across your body. So by having safety switches on your power points, you avoid the shock and can insert theplug, then switch the power on in complete safety. That's why British and Australian power points are a million times superior to America's.

  2. And to answer your question, "do our devices(toasters, TVs, radios, stoves and such) not have power switches of their own? Of course they do, that's another layer of safety that again makes Australia's(and New Zealand's, for that matter) and Britain's electrical supply a million times superior to America's.
