  2. The 2% is a guidline and not a membership fee. However the obligation to alliance in the face of invasion of any member is real and acts most effectively as a deterent if an enemy is convinced that said alliance will hold. Trump is undermining the effectiveness of NATO and causing more damage than any imaginary unpaid membership fee.

  3. Not only is he confused about NATO funding he is confused about Ukraine funding. He says Europe is as big an economy as USA and should pay as much as USA which he says pays $200b compared to only $20b from Europe.... TOTAL = USA $71.4b Europe $133.2b OF THAT MILITARY = USA $43.9b Europe $45.5b [not counting the latest european $55b dollar package.]
