  1. The "free nations" desperately needed a reminder that democracy is something worth fighting for, and even dying for. Far, far too many Europeans and Americans have grown infatuated with authoritarianism. Yes, true democracy can seem weak when dealing with the mundane things of life. But the alternative is far worse. Putin graciously reminded everybody of this fact. I expect not only further growth in European unity, but also en-mass rejection of those who want authoritarian rule. Especially those with ties to Putin, like the Tories in the UK and the Republicans in the USA, and FvD where I live.
