Considering the way in which the USA continues to ignore even the most basic of privacy rules, the EU will be forced to develop their own alternative versions of US platforms from companies like Facebook, Google, Apple, and Microsoft. That sounds like a very good idea! Technologically, it is almost trivial to do this. It will mean billions of dollars will remain in the EU instead of being siphoned off to the US. And it will mean lots of jobs for us! Well done, EU.

@antalz Because from a marketing perspective, it is not trivial. These platforms have an enormous head start in name recognition. For a new startup it would be nearly impossible to even get noticed. And if they were noticed, one of these giants would buy them up before you could blink your eyes. If the EU market would be freed from these giants, that would change.
