  1. The Unix vendors made a huge mistake by making it expensive and closed. If not for their shortsightedness, Windows 3.11 would have lost out to Unix on commodity pcs.

  2. Great analysis! Me, I am a stickler for stability. I have been using ext since its 2 incarnation. With ext2 I have had the occasional corruption due to unscheduled reboots, which had me use ReiserFS for a brief spell, but switched to ext3 when it was mainstreamed.
