You were on to something, John Snow! Great story, thank you!

At one time I helped at a camping with kids who wanted to do archery. Arrows with huge suction cups, 5 yards from the target. Great fun, but I also had kids walk through the line of fire completely oblivious of what was going on. My best shooter was a tiny girl, can't have been over 6, who initially was really timid. Challenged her a bit to put her back into it and set her feet as she should, and she shot straight 10's.

People learn quickly when they see what arrows can do to flesh...

Ah, the cold war. I remember the convoys on the roads in those days. You don't see those in the EU anymore.

I love your stories. Congratulations with getting 300k subs! Proud to have subscribed when you were still at 10k.

Awesome! While it is of course dreadful what happened to some of those Catholics, there are plenty of evil deeds done by Catholics against Protestants. In Elisabeth's day, Catholics were plotting to have her assassinated, the country put back under Catholic rule, and all Protestants murdered. Monarchs tend to act drastically when such plots against them are being hatched. See for example the Gunpowder plot when James 1 succeeded Elisabeth to know that the threat was real. Or the assault by Spain on England (the Armada).

Great story-telling! Thank you! For a second I thought this was about the Siege of Shrewsbury during the Anarchy, of Cadfael fame, but that was three centuries earlier. Another instance of Englishmen killing Englishmen...

There are many, many analogs between medieval / early renaissance Europe and GoT. A time without strong national identities and an idle ruling class (i.e. who had nothing better to do than try to increase their own power), where allegiances shifted with the winds... Right now we have another idle ruling class, the billionaires, who are up to no good.

Added with a LOT of careful propaganda blaming outside forces for it all -- when in reality, it was the German government itself that was causing most of it. The victory of the Nazis over the German minds and hearts was by them taking seeds of resentment, aiming them towards imagined enemies, and convincing the people that only Hitler could fight those enemies.

At that time, there wasn't much christian about the Catholic church. It was corrupted to the core. Many think it is still corrupt. However, I do know there are many good people in it who love God. May God bless them. Many, however, failed the golden rule of humanity: "Do to others as you would have them do to you".

7:16 -- Doing your best Dr Frankenstein impersonation eh? Fascinating video, I never knew how advanced their care for the wounded was.

People forget how evil the USSR was. And now this evil little man Putin wants to restore it. But without the communist ideology: now it will simply be the mafia running the country and its satellites.

I first learned about this story in school, 40-odd years ago. I then thought Custer was a hero. Now I think he was a murderer and got what he deserved. "Do to others as you would have them do to you"

Excellent stories, but the audio is not as good as usual...

Great piece! Watchers should realise that while the arguments presented by the SS man were indeed what they thought at the time, most if not all those ideas were based on lies & careful Nazi propaganda. For instance, the German army was defeated in WW1: the allies would have quickly marched into Berlin if the war had continued (Germany had become isolated, there was revolution amongst civilians and its troops were mutinying. The Allies had cut off the German supplies of oil and food and had broken through the Hindenburg line, and all the while 10,000 fresh American troops were arriving daily ). Also there were options in the Versaille treaty to halt repair payments if the economy could not bear them anymore -- which were used by the German government. Yes, the Germans suffered and were humiliated. But their suffering was caused by economic mis-management of their own government, and the humiliation after WW1 was nothing compared to the humiliation after WW2. Those that don't want to lose wars, should not start wars.
