About the Nordstream: that pipe will never open up again. Any European politician who would suggest that will immediately be laughed out of office. And without European cooperation, no American can open it up.

Another excellent discussion! Thank you.

The only thing big about Trump is his girth. And his ego. The buffoon uses platform shoes to look taller.

Ryan always manages to get some nuggets in there that change the way we look at things. Like that Harry Potter analogy. Excellent stuff!

Nielsen is absolutely right about keeping Ukraine on our side. If Ukraine falls, its men will be incorporated into the Russian army and forced to expand its empire. That would be a disaster. The West has been playing games for far too long. It is time for decisive support of Ukraine.

For those confused about Witkoff not knowing any of the 4 Oblasts, Crimea is a fifth disputed Oblast -- though are no Ukrainian troops there. The 4 oblasts where fighting is going on are Kherson, Zaporizia, Donesk and Luhansk. Donbass is not an Oblast, but a geographic region.

The Swiss attitude towards the use of their ammo will be the end of their defense industry. And the American reluctance in calling a spade a spade for its domestic politics will do the same. The EU will prioritize their own defense industry from now on.

"A house divided against itself can not stand"

Those into conspiracy theories might argue that Biden wants Ukraine to develop its own advanced defense industry, so as to undermine the power of the American Military-Industrial Complex. Personally, I would think that a great move. A future NATO member with an advanced weapons industry will be a great asset.

Trump #2 is even worse than Trump #1. Without a doubt the worst US president in history. Both domestically and on foreign policy. No president in history has turned a growing economy into a recession this quickly, and no US president has ever encouraged a foreign nation that aggressively attacked an ally.

Probably Putin dreamed of escaping the tab for what he is doing by sailing off in his yacht. That would mean a lot of people applying to join the Ukrainian equivalent of the Seals.
2
That the right-wing media is against e.g. gay marriage and therefore Putin is supporting that, and that the left is creating groups opposing that is short sighted. There are definite indications that Putin is behind BOTH sides of the culture wars, radicalising both the right wing and the left wing. The culture war is a distraction from what really matters, maintaining the Rule of Law and reducing the influence of Money and Corruption. Like in the Chechen war, I have heard that the FSB had infiltrated the terrorist groups, not to protect the Russian people from them, but to incite them to do even more violence against Russia.

Great interview. I am an "old" man in my fifties, but I am doing my bit, on social media and any other way whenever I can.

What is happening behind the scenes in the USA, while not so relevant to Ukraine, is the most worrying of all. Trump is very hard at work to dismantle any institution that might oppose him. He is taking the USA on the same trajectory Putin took Russia. And the media don't care at all.
2
"They become subordinate to the USA in times of war" No, France is not part of the integrated command structure of NATO. France will honour its obligations, obviously, but will not suborn its troops to US command. All other NATO members will (as far as I know), France is the exception.

Those chip fabs in Taiwan are totally dependent on service from the Netherlands. If China took them over, i give them three weeks max, before production goes belly-up.

I am a Christian, and I know that I should forgive others when they sin against me, and normally that is easy for me. But I have serious trouble forgiving the people of the USA for electing the Traitor in Chief.

I can't believe how the twats in Congress agree with Dumpy. On the principle of common hospitality alone, what Vance and Dumpy did was a despicable betrayal. Wars have been started over less of an insult.

Re Netherlands: 1). Wilders is not PM, and it is still doubtful that he ever will be. 2). Parliament still strongly supports Ukraine, and will force Wilders to support it as well -- or his tenure will be very short indeed.

The USA is heaping shame on itself as long as trump is allowed to support dictators. Why isn't he impeached yet?

@Rjsjrjsjrjsj I see what you did there...

The car gifted by Prigozhin being laden with fines? O My God, that is funny. Thanks for pointing out the duplicity of the main stream reporting.

The General raises many important points. Much of it boils down to our own democracies being tested by the Ukraine war, just as much as Ukraine's is. Much of the current struggles & unrest in our own countries is directly or indirectly caused by that fox in the Kremlin. Some examples: * Trump got elected by Russian interference through social media. * The Leave vote was boosted by Russian interference through social media. * Hamas has been trained by Russia (through the Wagner group). * The GOP is being manipulated by Russia through money and blackmail. * Many extreme right parties in the EU are funded and aided by Russia. That includes the Front National in France and the FvD in the Netherlands. * The pro-Palestine movement is encouraged by Russia. For instance, people who were caught in Paris painting stars of David on selected houses were Russian agents. Putin has started a fight to the death with Democracy. He is abusing the Freedom of Speech and other democratic freedoms to do it. If we don't want the world to become a Kleptocracy like Russia, we need to wake up and fight this effectively. The most effective way to fight Putin is to give Ukraine all the weapon systems they want, and plenty of them. The fight of our times is happening in Ukraine. Not somewhere else.

Trump is, first of all, the problem of the USA. Only they can get rid of him. Meanwhile we should ignore the nonsensical "negotiations" Trump has with Putin. Just keep on providing weapons and funds to Ukraine. Whatever the result, it will be unacceptable to Ukraine. It depends on how the political theater in the USA plays out what will happen then. But in all cases, Europe should make re-arming itself and Ukraine THE top priority. It is no use to dilly-dally about immigrants or CO2 emissions when we know Russia will invade us in one or two years time -- unless stopped by Ukraine.
1
For the USA to have any future, you have to be American First, Republican Second. Trump + MAGA is destroying the USA, and no Republican is doing anything about it. I don't know what your personal reason to vote for Trump is, but I can assure you it is ill-founded.
1
Gen. Hodges is making a lot of sense. I hope the Americans understands that the US reluctance in fulfilling their promises to Ukraine based on which they surrendered their nukes, is GREATLY damaging esteem for the USA throughout Europe. This, even more than the Trump presidency, will cause Europe to detach from the USA, and instead of a staunch ally becoming a global competitor. We will build up our own arms industry, thank you very much, instead of financing the US weapons industry. We can not stay dependent on the US supplies for our time of need. Expect the F-35 to have been the last project where European nations carried a lot of the financial burden.
1
I bet that after the Maga regime is over, the USA will recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC. That will be a nasty surprise for these goons.
1
The only people who can deal with Russia are the Russian people. Putin's only worry is how he can continue to deceive his people. That deception will last as long as his people can continue to live. This means that the Russian economy needs to be totally destroyed before change will come.

I recently had a re-watch of "Band of Brothers". I recommend watching it to all those who feel the need to criticize Ukraine, but with the understanding that the Ukraine front is much more deadly than e.g. the Bastogne front. In Bastogne, they didn't have drones hovering above who drop munitions directly into your foxhole.
1
Great point about drones making the cost of war so high! Drones have democratized warfare, in that anyone can construct weapons that can take down literally any asset, so that big and rich countries have little advantage when starting a war.

The icc will be very busy when this is all over. And its prison in Scheveningen will need to be enlarged.

@ The UK is (or could be) self-sufficient energy-wise. Except for the Tories making crazy deals, selling off the nation's resources to foreign investors.
