Thanks for your final remark. Times of recession usually hit the poorest hardest, while the elite actually gains more wealth. Inflation is a shift of wealth from people on fixed salary to those who live off dividends and (especially) interests.

@tomenerd Rich people don't live off the value of stocks, but off dividends. These are linked to profits, which tend to rise quickly during inflation. Companies raise prices quicker than they raise salaries, as we can see happening right now. So, it is not as backward as you state it. Quite the opposite.
