Interesting theory. It explains why the rocket resumed a straight course after its U-turn. However, another explanation might be that for some reason (Bug?) the missile suddenly started tracking the biggest radiation source in the area, which was its control van, or mis-interpreted its actuation commands. Or perhaps there was a singularity in its internal navigation software that got triggered, which made the thing believe it was flying in the opposite direction from where it should go. While normally they wouldn't make large corrections, a bug may well cause them to behave differently. My theory is that we have seen a software bug in action, and an illustration to why military & aviation software is so much more expensive to develop than administrative software.
