John Doe While in a criminal case that is not an admission of guilt, it does mean that the evidence presented by the prosecution stands unchallenged. Like if he is asked "which legal service did Cohen provide that you paid that money for", and he responds "I plead the 5th" or client-lawyer privilege, that is pretty strong evidence that Cohen was speaking the truth. Taking the stand is your only opportunity to contradict the testimony of others. If instead you plead the 5th, that adverse testimony will stand and weight pretty heavily during the Judgement.

Usually you get the government you deserve. The USA has been VERY lax in maintaining its democracy. It allows gross corruption. Partizan judges. Politicians dependent on large companies, pressure groups and rich individuals for election. Blatant propaganda lying all the time to the public. Laws that disenfranchise large groups of the population. Blatant intimidation of people exercising their democratic rights. A very low interest of people in the political process. This is not new. This has been going on for half a century. Make America a Real Democracy Again.

What I find hard to understand is how so many people in the USA would want to be ruled by a mobster. Already in 2015 it was obvious what a despicable human being Trump is, and yet they nominated him. And then almost half of the electorate voted for him. And still he has his groupies worshiping him, after all he has done. It is sickening. Personally, I blame Fox "news". That channel should have been taken off the air a long time ago. You can not allow such rabid propaganda to affect your society without consequences. Europe discovered this in the 1930ies. But the USA thought it is "special" so it shouldn't put sensible restraints on the 1st amendment. And still I get Americans who think Europe is less democratic than the USA for this reason. Well, democracy in the USA is currently on life support. But for the brave actions of e.g. Mike Pence it would be a authoritarian dictatorship right now. But Trump or DeSantis or any number of wannabees will try again. It was a miracle Pence found it in himself to resist Trump on 1/6. Don't count on a second miracle, fix things!

@kac2868 While he doesn't have the brains or charisma to be the actual Anti-Christ, he sure is an image of him. I don't laugh at the evangelicals following him. I weep. Like I wept when he dedicated the USA to greed and selfishness during his inauguration.

@christopherjq7414 He is not just a test for the evangelicals, he is also a test for the rest of the nation. There are so many things deeply broken in the USA, it isn't funny. Like the blatant corruption of e.g. the NRA giving so much money to politicians. Allowing Fox "news" to poison the hearts and minds of so many. Allowing the disenfranchising of so many people in red states. Partisan hacks as judges appointed by politicians for politicians. The gerrymandering. Churches who preach politics instead of Faith. The disproportionate power of red states in the Senate. Etc, etc, etc, etc. Trump has brought it all to a head. Now it is time to act to clean up the country. First of all, ensure proportional representation in all elections. Every person should have the same amount of influence in things that affect his life. Not like now, where 49% of people living in a district where the other side has 51%, have NO representation in Congress or the Senate.

John Doe They should have believed him when he said "Only crooks plead the 5th". However, optics can never be a reason for not applying the Law. And if propaganda channels like Fox "news" continue to repeat Trumps lies it will be all the more reason to take them off the air.
