In a democracy, the judiciary must be independent of the government. That means that the judiciary decides who to put forward for vacancies, with politicians choosing from a shortlist. It also means the Judiciary should have the authority to dismiss corrupt judges like Cannon. That politicians are able to appoint unqualified, extremist judges is one of the biggest problems in the USA today.
