Brexit is a definite cause of the economic malaise in the UK right now, but not the only cause. Tory austerity is another. Historic data shows again and again that Tories cause economic malaise.

While the economy of the UK is currently suffering under Brexit, wait to see what happens when the EU relocates the handling of EU transactions, and many of the financial services associated with that, from the City back to the mainland. This will happen in July 2024, or rather before then, as starting on that date, no EU transaction clearing will be allowed outside EU soil. After some time, the City will only be left with less-than-savory characters wanting to launder money. And that will result in the City being blacklisted, no more financial services from the City for the EU zone. We want less Russian money in the EU, not more. <edit:> The deadline is 30-6-2025, not 24.

@rosshilton Seems like you do not understand what democracy is, boy. France's Parliament has the authority to depose Macron, but they chose not to. That is democratic. Because France's Parliament is an accurate reflection of the various groups of France's citizens. And the population is exercising its right to protest, which is also democratic. Bishops being automatic part of the House of Lords is NOT democratic. Nor is the PM appointing his FSB friends to the House of Lords. Nor is the Tory party installing a Tory donor as the head of the BBC. Nor is Sunak literally giving away 40B£ to his mates for nothing and refusing to claw it back. And I could go on for a long, long, LONG time.

Indeed. For instance, the EU will not let the UK back in until it has drastically overhauled its political system to become an actual democracy, where the majority rules -- instead of the 43% that voted Tory in the last election, yet got an 80-seat majority in Parliament. Also the House of Lords does not satisfy democratic standards as put down in the Copenhagen criteria, nor does the press. Or the Human Rights situation. The UK has slipped below the thresholds of what would be a free country.

@samhartford8677 The only thing that surprises me is how the media and the opposition let them get away with it. The very fact that nearly 3 years after Brexit Day the Tories are still blaming the EU proves their bankruptcy as a political movement.

9:52 -- ESPECIALLY for the UK, it will be vital to embrace the Euro. The EU has decided that it will not allow services underpinning the Euro to be outside of its monetary control. This will take effect next year, and will be the end of a lot of the UK's financial services. For example, it is unacceptable that a small economy like the UK's underpins most of the Euro transactions through their clearing services. Only by adopting the Euro can the UK hope to rebuild those services after July 2024.

"Driving up house prices" The UK is slowly discovering that this was due to foreign investments, largely dirty Russian money. Nothing at all to do with immigrants. "NHS waiting lists" These are due to the Tories re-routing NHS money towards private health care organisations that the NHS is forced to do business with. Again, nothing to do with immigrants.
