  1. My idea of a good developer is the opposite of a rockstar. I have seen a few of them, one in particular who one day got fired on the spot for loudly disagreeing with the CEO. The only person I ever saw that happen to. He had a greatly inflated perception of his own skills. Rockstar == ego tripper who can't take one for the team.

  2. That is the perception of SW developers. However, after 25 years in the field I can say that they are pretty rare. Software development is a team effort and the anti-social don't last long, except in environments where they know each other very well and accept each other's faults. I have mainly worked in the secondment / consulting industry, giving me an inside view of many dozens of development teams & companies.

  3. Thanks for the reference to the Belbin team roles, it was interesting to do the test. The best team I ever worked with had three key people: One "Resource Investigator / Shaper", one "Completer / Finisher", and me as "Co-ordinator / Monitor / Evaluator". True example of 1 + 1 + 1 = 25.
