  1. I do not agree with Twain here. Putting a stupid person in his/her place will not mend the stupidity of that person, but will show any onlookers who is stupid and who is right, if you do it properly. Currently, we allow far too many to dismiss Science just because it does not suit them. The consequences so far have been no less than disastrous in the USA and the UK (Brexit, anti-vax, Covid response), and if the climate change deniers are continued to be given a platform, the whole world. Just to look at Brexit: those advocating it dismissed the warnings from EVERY economic expert by saying "England has had enough of experts". They got away with it, and now GB is experiencing the greatest self-inflicted economic disaster since Stalin decided the Ukraine should Industrialize. So instead of ignoring the stupid, we need to learn how to properly discredit them, and make them look like the fools they are.

  2.  @mra5975  Lovely words. But all the experts strongly contradict you. If Brexit were about the things you say, they should have been honest about it, and honest about the consequences. They weren't, and you aren't either. Brexit promised green uplands, extra money for the NHS, better trade deals, no barriers to trade with the EU, etc, etc. NONE of those promises have been fulfilled, nor will they. In most cases, Brexit delivered the exact opposite of what was promised. And now you and others are trying to gaslight the people claiming that those promises were not made, and that Brexit was about other things. All I say is: LIAR, LIAR, PANTS ON FIRE.

  3.  @Briselance  The economy affects everybody, this "soverain tea" they keep banging on about only gives more privileges to the government -- who promptly uses it to take People's Rights away. So I fully agree. The EU gave some protection & freedoms to UK citizens its own government would rather not. That is definitely more important to discuss than the economy.

  4. She talks about "Catholic Conspiracies", so she is obviously religiously motivated. Can it be that by rejecting the existence of the Roman Empire, she is trying to discredit the Bible?

  5. I don't know what this woman's problem is, but I agree she is purposefully spreading misinformation. That needs to be corrected. I tend to correct misinformation, even from people who I think are trolls. Misinformation needs to be corrected. I simply stop responding when the troll switches to personal attacks, but often I have been surprised when a meaningful discussion ensued. It has even, at times, caused me to look closer at an issue to find that (o horror!) I was wrong.... But the existence of the Roman Empire has been proven by so many independent sources that you would need to bin the whole science of History to maintain this opinion. Such disregard for Science can never be accepted.
