Probably. Though the Dutch did mount a serious effort to pacify the nation, we recognised that there was little real gain to be had by fighting until the end, and chose to separate on good terms. The Dutch have always had good relations with the Indonesian republic after that: my grandfather moved over there right after the war (1950ies), which my father remembered as a golden period. Continuing the fight would have made things much worse. It is a shame however for the indigenous Christians that fought on the Dutch side, such as the people from Maluku. Things did not go well for them, Christians are still persecuted in Indonesia...
