You correctly point out the main problem in this conflict. How could Palestinians migrating to Palestine ever become "refugees"? Moreover, how can they still be "refugees" three generations later?

I don't think it is appropriate to both-sides this conflict too much. The Arabs lost, and those who left their homes for the Palestinian areas, mostly of free choice, were not allowed back into Israel. But if the Jews had lost, there would have been no Israel, and the Israelis could have expected a second holocaust. As far as the Israelis were concerned, a Palestinian state could have been created in 1948. That it wasn't, was not the fault of Israel.

@XandateOfHeaven True, but talking about Gaza, Israel occupied it only half of the duration since 1948. I find it unbelievable that the Arabs / Palestinians who ruled over it for 40 years kept the "refugees" and their children living in camps without any opportunities to improve their lives. This is one major cause of the current conflict: people who are taught to blame Israel for their lot in life, where in fact Israel wasn't to blame.

@bobbobby3085 There were MANY people who were unable to return to their place of origin, due to it being destroyed, being taken over by other people in their absence, or having been taken over by an entity they did not want to live under. Like the German people from East Prussia. Exactly the same as with the Palestinians. Again, there is no reason for these people to still be "refugees" three generations after they left their homes, except for the Arabs wanting to prolong their misery for political reasons.
