@unnamedchannel1237 Especially for those on pilgrimage, such arrangements existed. That is one reason for the famous pilgrim routes crossing Europe. That and other churches wanting a part of the business ;-) And monasteries often fed anyone who asked, and gave them a place to sleep.

The shock would not have been as great as someone getting off an airplane in a different climate than where he took off.
