@j.ceasar Having the right to spread opinions that hurt others is called Freedom of Speech. There is no right Not To Be Offended, it doesn't exist. People take offense at certain opinions, that is an active choice. THEIR choice. Now, if I dehumanize or demonize specific people groups, or incite hatred against them, that is NOT (or shouldn't be) covered under Freedom of Speech. Except in cases where a higher body has judged the situation, as in calling Trump a rapist or Hamas a terrorist group. Those are facts, established by courts of law / government bodies. But having an opinion that clashes with your opinion, that just means your opinion is wrong. Usually. Because I think my opinions through and am open to correction. But dehumanizing me for my opinion, that is actual hate speech -- which is done far too often by people who get offended by someone's opinion. So we have the weird situation where many people use actual hate speech because they accuse someone else, falsely, of using hate speech. That has a name, and it is HYPOCRISY. Case in point: J.K. Rowling. Those who rail against her often use hate speech, while I have NEVER caught her in uttering actual hate speech. She does pose questions, and points out where women are endangered by policies that promote rights of trans people. But that is healthy debate, NOT hate speech.

@j.ceasar I am fully aware that in the USA hate speech is allowed, and I am very much against that. But an opinion is never hate speech unless it is some generalization like "All <fill in people group> are stupid" or something like that. However, an opinion like "Unrestricted access to women toilets by self-identified trans women opens up these protected spaces to rapists" is pretty factual and can NEVER be hate speech. Though many would claim it is. If that hurts your feeling, too bad, your feelings are wrong. We should not let feelings rule us, instead we should let ratio & conscience moderate our feelings.

@j.ceasar I don't blame Disney for anything. Nor am I offended by anything they do. But I will not spend money on Disney either. And I roll my eyes when they blame their former fans for staying away from their movies. The problem with Disney is not their politics. It is that they are not telling interesting or engaging stories. Mary Sues are not interesting. And if you think people don't chose to be offended, you don't understand either people or emotions. I have seen many people take offense and make very stupid decisions as a result, decisions that destroyed their lives. People should listen to their emotions, be alert to what they are saying, but NEVER be controlled by emotions. Emotions are fickle, and can easily be manipulated. Which is for example why we see people protest in support of a literal terrorist group, right after those terrorists perpetrated a terrible massacre, even before their victim had time to retaliate. Don't tell me those people decided to do that with serene hearts after careful consideration.

@j.ceasar About gender equality, I am all for that. But not at the cost of women. I know there are far too many men who would love to have the right to be in women's toilets or showers or prisons. Not because they feel like they are women, but to take advantage of women. So when a man wants to identify as a women, there MUST be a safeguard to weed out the perverts from the real trans people. That is not me being anti-trans, that is me understanding human nature. There is a reason that femicide is a problem in the world, and it is because not all men can be trusted with women. We need safeguards. And allowing any man to self-identify as a woman is just asking for serious problems at the cost of women. Which, btw, includes (genuine) trans women. My personal opinion is that a person with a pen!s has no reason being in a women-only space.

@j.ceasar What is most destructive of people's lives are policies that are not thoroughly thought out. And a climate where one party is over-sensitive and escalates any counter-argument or warning of unwanted effects as "hate speech", is not conducive to well-though-out policies. Freedom of Debate is essential for good policies. Some people are mistrustful of science. But let me tell you, science is the search of Truth. It is a place where there is zero tolerance for emotions. Science is brutally honest. People who distrust science don't understand that level of honesty. Truth hurts, sometimes, but that doesn't mean truth ceases to be truth. Truth is unchanging, the very opposite of feelings. Even hurt feelings. (Note that I am talking about hard science: math, beta or medical sciences. People are very right to be mistrustful of soft sciences.)
