  1. One point you overlooked: those road works are part of a huge scam to extort people. US cities are built for cars, not for people, after car producers convinced city councils that that is the future. In their wings, huge civil engineering companies got in on the scam to take huge amounts of money out of the public coffers. Money that should have been used to e.g. educate their youth. Instead, cities bankrupt themselves to build concrete jungles.
