  2. I hate that trope in Hollywood where as soon as a person that a leader cares for is in the hands of evil, they surrender everything in an attempt to save that person. And it usually works out for them. In reality, when evil has what it wants, their normal response is to kill everybody they control as quickly as possible, to fix loose ends. Or go back on the deal in order to extract even more. That is why in the real world, you only negotiate with evil in order to postpone a confrontation, while trying to gain a favorable position from which you can launch a rescue operation, or are fairly certain that you can catch the bad guys afterwards.
