  1. Being a republic says something about how your Head of State is determined. Being a democracy says something about how your government functions. The head of state and the government are not the same. In fact, most democracies strictly separate the head of state from the head of government. Almost all nations where the two are the same, are not democracies. The USA used to be the exception. Perhaps, just maybe, the USA needs to take that advice.
