Reading these stories of Patton make me smile. That man was made for this war, and was the key force behind American tank doctrine. Such a shame he lost his cool a few times.

@amerigo88 Perhaps this was the main reason he was passed for promotion, not the slapping incidents -- though these were greatly magnified in the press. The higher-up you get, the less important tactics become.
