  1. So Jake, you have discovered why the Zionist movement started in the 1890ies. The movie & musical Anatevka / Fiddler on the Roof plays in the context of the Pogroms. It doesn't focus on it, but you can see some snippets that only make sense if you know this. Like the Rabbi's blessing for the Tsar: "May the Lord bless and keep the Tsar -- far from here". In the end, the village Anatevka is destroyed in a proper pogrom, and we discover that the movie is a memorial to the old village and the life they had there. The literary work on which the movie is based, was written by a Jew from the Kyiv region who lived through a Pogrom.
