I wonder why law cases can be delayed in this way. It should not be possible to start a new case to stop another case. If Dump thinks he has immunity, he should argue that at the case. If the judge rules against him, he can appeal after that case is completed and Dump is either declared guilty or innocent. That should be it. A ruling not to dismiss a case early on "immunity", is the safe option that does no harm, so it should not be possible to appeal that. Continuing a court case is by definition the just option, and only in cases that are VERY clear cut should a case be dismissed. If there is any doubt, the case should continue, and that should be at the Judge's discretion. Not something that another judge has authority to comment on. Should that judge be wrong or corrupt or politically motivated, there is the appeals system. That is enough.

But you would do well to study to study Romans 6 -- WITHOUT adding the religious "I know it says here that I am free from the Law yet I'd better still keep the Law for fear of angering God". Also, note that Ro 6 is addressed EXCLUSIVELY to Christians. We have absolutely no business expecting non-Christians to hold to any (religious) law.

@rileycoyote8275 Indeed it is. One of those things is that Christians have no business telling non-Christians what to do or not to do. Because that is the opposite of Loving them. The law does not being life. It can only take life. But the Spirit is life. And where there is the Spirit of God, there is Freedom. According to Acts, even non-Jewish Christians are not required to hold any of the laws in the Bible, except for a very select few.

The Maga "christian nationalists" think they do God a favor by taking control of the government. They dont. Jesus himself Instituted the separation of Church and State when He said "My Kingdom is not of this world, otherwise My disciples would fight". Because Jesus knew that those who seek (temporal) Power instead of Influence can not follow Him. As the professor said, any "state" religion quickly becomes corrupt, if it isn't already corrupt in the first place. Christians do not seek power. They seek God, and to be a servant of all.

@justjoyriding He won't even need to pardon himself. He can simply direct the DOJ to drop the cases. Even the cases in state courts: he can have federal courts take over those cases when he is president.

Which forced you to join WW1 in 1917 (3 years after it started) and WW2 in 1941 (2 years after it started). Right now, we are in early 1940: a full-scale invasion in Ukraine, but not yet in any NATO country. But the more the USA dithers that invasion comes nearer.

A congressmember / senator who fails to protect democracy out of fear for his safety or that of his family is not worthy of that office. MANY people died in order to allow that person to sit in congress and have power. He/she has spat on their memory. AND he has violated his oath of office. I keep being shocked at how badly the Law is upheld by the USA. OBVIOUSLY Trump led insurrection, and he shouldn't only be excluded from the ballot, he should be in jail awaiting trial right now. Germany lost its democracy because the Law was not being upheld by the government, and they allowed paramilitaries to spread fear and bully people. The USA is still in danger of the same, by being so weak and slow in punishing MAGAts for their crimes.

Sure there are HUGE problems in the USA right now, mainly the result of too little taxation for the rich, and many other measures where the poor subsidize the rich. Biden is working to deal with that, Republicans are trying to make things even worse for the poor. Like when Trump blew a 2T$ hole in the budget by giving even more tax cuts to the rich. But that 61B$ for Ukraine would mainly be spent in the US, providing US jobs. Being a faithful and reliable ally is what has made the USA great, and what continues to make it great.

The Republicans will certainly sit back comfortable, "mission accomplished". They have frustrated the Ukrainians in their war against Russia. They have made the USA go back on its word. That is a MAJOR "achievement" by the Republicans, one which will embolden dictators all over the world. It has destabilized the world and made it more likely that WW3 will erupt in the next few years. It has made it much more likely that in a few years, US soldiers will by dying on battlefields all over the world, be it Israel, Taiwan, Europe or the Americas. Whereas they could have prevented that all by giving a small amount of out-dated weapons to Ukraine. The Republicans have been a great help to Satan.

Those people have always been there. In a democracy, power is split so they can keep each other in check. The absolute disaster in the USA is that both the judiciary and the legislature are failing to stand up to Trump, and are instead assisting him. All these people will see eternal damnation, but they need to be held accountable on earth.

That would give the government a tool to prevent specific candidates from running, by filing bogus charges against them at a point where a trial can not be completed before the election. What is needed is that the power of the President is reduced. That needs to be done in several ways, most importantly by separating the two roles of Head of State and Head of Government. The HOS ( the President) should be mainly ceremonial, the HOG (a new function, lets call him/her the Prime Minister) should be the main executive. The HOG should be impeachable by a simple majority in the House of Representatives, as is the case in all other democracies. That ensures the Government executes the will of the majority of the country. Besides that there is plenty of room for Judicial and Constitutional reform, all necessary.

This is totally expected. If they had ruled otherwise, the USA would no longer be a democracy. Because the President MUST be subject to the Law lest he place himself above both the Law-Giver (Congress) and the Judiciary. Otherwise, the President would be a tyrant just like we had in medieval times, that did as they pleased. He would even have the power to remove anyone opposing him from Congress, or from SCOTUS. He would BE the Law. He wouldn't have the right to do those things, but he would have the POWER. And before long, his newly appointed stooges would have amended the Constitution to also give him the legal right. POWER is a dangerous thing. That is why the Constitution distributed the Power of government over three separate and independent bodies: Congress, the Executive, and the Judiciary. The first makes the laws, the second executes those laws, and the third judges whether EVERYBODY abided by those laws. You have to wonder how any American can vote for a man who thinks he has the rights of a dictator.

They were the main Appeasers & Isolationists in the run-up to WW2, blocking the STRONG desires of Roosevelt (a Democrat) to get involved. That is because the legal system has been corrupted by the Republicans. That a sitting president can not be indicted is a Republican invention. It is nowhere in the legal books. But a Republican DOJ would stop all the federal proceedings against Trump, and all state proceedings would be taken over by the federal courts when he becomes President. The President has far too much power in the USA, and there are far too few checks and balances against him abusing his power. And what little there was has been demolished by the Supreme Court. That is why the USA is no longer a real democracy.

@franklievens376 In a democracy, EVERYBODY is required to obey the Law, at all times, including the President, and liable for prosecution if they don't. With that opinion, SCOTUS terminated the Constitution. The dissenting (sane) justices said so much in their dissenting opinion. Because the key element in the Balance of Power is the Law. Congress writes the Law in order for the Government to execute / implement that Law. If the President can instruct the Government to disobey the Law, that is the end of the Balance of Power. This is serious stuff. VERY serious. This opinion can not be allowed to stand. So either at least 2 MAGA justices need to be replaced (retired / impeached / incarcerated) and this opinion repealed, or the Constitution needs to be amended to make this point explicit. Harris has her work cut out for her.

The USA used to claim being the ultimate blueprint of Democracy. But that has proven to be a gross overstatement. The USA hasn't even separated its Powers properly. The Rule of Law is the Conditio sine qua NON for Democracy. If Trump walks away from this case without a substantial prison sentence, the US is done for.

In my country Cannon would have been removed from the case a loooong time ago. In the USA there are far too many ways in which rich people can run down the clock & leeway for corrupt officials. My country has a system where when a judge appears biased in their questions or other communications, they can call together three other judges from that jurisdiction and have them consider what the judge has said and/or done. If they find that there is an appearance of bias, the judge is taken off the case. The whole process is usually concluded within 24 hours. Even the slightest appearance of bias is enough. Her deference of Trump on day one would have been plenty to take her off the case. Shame on you, USA. Get your act together.

Don't just blame Republicans. Democrats have a part in this as well, not in the least because it took TWO YEARS before Trump was indicted for his role in the jan 6 insurrection. In most democratic countries, Trump would have been arrested the day after he left the WH. That coward Garland treated the criminals in Congress with kid gloves, instead of indicting them for e.g. people trafficking, underage s3x, etc, etc. These people did crimes, and weren't prosecuted! That is on Biden. And also, the democrat politicians should have been MUCH harder and aggressive against the Republicans. Instead, they tried to appease them and work "bipartisan". That was a mistake. And the People should have been much louder in protesting & demolishing the fantasies promoted on the MAGA media. Right now, you must take to the streets in protest, until the orange menace is gone.
