@justjoyriding He won't even need to pardon himself. He can simply direct the DOJ to drop the cases. Even the cases in state courts: he can have federal courts take over those cases when he is president.

They call themselves the Party of Law and Order. Wow, that self-description aged like fine milk. I am shocked by how short-sighted many Americans are. Trump stands for the exact opposite the GOP used to stand for. Family Values? Trump, the two-time divorcee with 20+ plausible r@pe accusations, and adjudicated to be a r@pist. Business man? Trump, who bankrupted his own casino and is forbidden to do any business in NY state. Religious? Trump, the biggest liar ever. So much for Thou Shalt Not Lie. He is a child of his father, who is a liar from the start, the Dev!l. Law and Order? Trump, facing 80+ indictments in 4 different courts. Convicted fraudster. Convicted slanderer. Incited a violent insurrection. Patriot? Trump, who believes Putin more than his own CIA, and who shipped hundreds of secret documents to US enemies. Whose son got 2B$ from Saudi Arabia, presumably for selling secrets. Love the Constitution? Trump, who incited an insurrection. Who wants to be a dictator. Who only loves free speech for himself and his pals, not for others. Who appointed three Constitution-hating justices who undo the jurisprudence of generations. I am shocked that there are still people who would support this clown.

That would give the government a tool to prevent specific candidates from running, by filing bogus charges against them at a point where a trial can not be completed before the election. What is needed is that the power of the President is reduced. That needs to be done in several ways, most importantly by separating the two roles of Head of State and Head of Government. The HOS ( the President) should be mainly ceremonial, the HOG (a new function, lets call him/her the Prime Minister) should be the main executive. The HOG should be impeachable by a simple majority in the House of Representatives, as is the case in all other democracies. That ensures the Government executes the will of the majority of the country. Besides that there is plenty of room for Judicial and Constitutional reform, all necessary.

That is because the legal system has been corrupted by the Republicans. That a sitting president can not be indicted is a Republican invention. It is nowhere in the legal books. But a Republican DOJ would stop all the federal proceedings against Trump, and all state proceedings would be taken over by the federal courts when he becomes President. The President has far too much power in the USA, and there are far too few checks and balances against him abusing his power. And what little there was has been demolished by the Supreme Court. That is why the USA is no longer a real democracy.

@franklievens376 In a democracy, EVERYBODY is required to obey the Law, at all times, including the President, and liable for prosecution if they don't. With that opinion, SCOTUS terminated the Constitution. The dissenting (sane) justices said so much in their dissenting opinion. Because the key element in the Balance of Power is the Law. Congress writes the Law in order for the Government to execute / implement that Law. If the President can instruct the Government to disobey the Law, that is the end of the Balance of Power. This is serious stuff. VERY serious. This opinion can not be allowed to stand. So either at least 2 MAGA justices need to be replaced (retired / impeached / incarcerated) and this opinion repealed, or the Constitution needs to be amended to make this point explicit. Harris has her work cut out for her.

@rusethorcain There are serious problems in the US legal system that Trump and his rich pals know all too well to abuse. Like how they can appeal any decision by a judge during a trial. Instead, it should be much easier to replace a judge when they seem or act biased.
