  4. Germany is definitely digitally backward. For example, when we visit, we needed to remind ourselves to bring cash. In the Netherlands we just don't need it.

  5. RE the poorer, the more religious -- the USA is the exception: The USA is not the exception. Even though it is the richest nation in the world, 60% of its people live from paycheck to paycheck. About 12% live in objective poverty, compared to e.g. 2.3% in the Netherlands.

  6. "low taxes" is a scam. The politicians who promise it, don't tell you what services they will cut. Usually cutting those services will cost you (much) more than the tax benefit. Especially in the USA, where a growing percentage of government expenditure only benefits the extremely rich. Like paying for huge motorways that only benefit those living in suburbs.

  7. I love people with the humility to make fun of themselves or their foibles. Like the Governator making fun of his accent, or Biden making fun of his age. Much better than making fun of others for their handicaps.
