  1. "The China Syndrome" is a wonderful movie, highlighting mistrust in the nuclear industry. Its release happened to coincide with the nuclear disaster at three-miles island, which highlighted similar problems. The China Syndrome is only mentioned as an aside, though it gave the title to the movie. Its focus is industrial corruption.

  2. I am an electrical engineer, and I can think of no reason why even intense radiation would cause a flashlight to malfunction. Radiation that would chemically alter the components in the flashlight would likely be stopped by its structure before coming to electrical parts or the battery. Also the power density of the radiation would be minuscule compared to the power delivered by the battery.
