  1. More likely the turkish Janissaries. These were slaves who could not marry. They were not enuchs though, and were not sold to the highest bidder. For obvious reasons: it is not smart to sell elite warriors...

  2. Great video, but is there no part two? I am sure there is much more to say about the history that inspired this show. Like the Hadrian wall, the endless infighting between different houses in Europe, the Hashishi, the Janisaries, etc.

  3. What modern blacksmiths call damascus steel has nothing to do with the real deal. The correct name is Pattern Welded steel, where the pattern is due to a folding, twisting and welding process. With real damascus steel it seems the patterns are due to specific impurities in the steel, which form nano structures that are the cause of its strength and sharpness.
