  1. Why is Mrs Patel not fired on the spot for ignoring these meetings? That is what would happen in any other democracy (except perhaps the USA, but that is not exactly a shining example...). She should try that kind of behaviour in the Netherlands, she wouldn't last a day. When parliament requests the presence of a minister at a meeting, they come--or face a Motion of Disapproval, which is the immediate end of their political career. Government serves at the pleasure of the elected Parliament. Is this not so in the UK?
