This issue is very simple. A government's purpose is to solve issues that individuals or companies can't solve themselves. That is the social contract, the raison d'être for a government. If the Tories can't be bothered sorting out these MASSIVE problems, they have no business in government.

@ab-ym3bf Tories would deny the contract exists. But the Public should be reminded and hold the government to account. If a government no longer acts in the interest of its citizens, those citizens have the right to do away with said government, as the Dutch did in the 16th century, and the French and Americans in the 18th, but I would be happy already if the UK saw some serious protests -- as they surely will this winter.

@ab-ym3bf Classes for the University of Hard Knocks continue until the lesson has been learned... The British anti-EU sentiment has been carefully nurtured for over 30 years by the tabloids. But as it is all based on lies and fabricated stories, it can change when people start to realise how they have been lied to. Truth is, the UK can not exist outside the EU. NI and Scotland will break away as the government continues to hang them out to dry for the benefit of South England. They will soon enter into relations with the EU. Then England will have no choice but to become an associate. It will probably be a condition for the IMF / ECB rescue package England will need, together with political reform that will make Tory governments like they now have impossible (direct representation, elected second chamber, proper constitution, etc). They will likely also be forced to adopt the Euro, the Pound having become worthless through hyper inflation. When the generation of EU-haters has died out, it will rejoin as full member, but without all the privileges it used to have.

@ab-ym3bf True, but they will become associated with the EU much sooner, and from then on there will be little practical difference for the people. And, what should not be underestimated is the change direct representation will bring. From then on, England will also have coalition governments, meaning their political culture will become much more "European". I understand that one of the reasons for the EU / UK conflicts is that the EU is used to coalitions & compromise whereas in the UK the winner has total authority, making UK politics authoritarian and confrontational. That will change once England has reached rock bottom and comes to its senses. All Brexit benefits, these! The clowns have put a wheel in motion that will only stop when the UK as we know it is no more. One almost hopes Labour will loose the next election. But things will get very tough for the average Brit, and many may even die...
