  1. Excellent analysis, as usual. I also think the rise of extremist selfishness in France and the rest of the EU, very worrying. People have forgotten the lessons taught by WW2, especially how extremists play on public sentiments, offering easy solutions for hard problems. But these promises are always lies. Because there are no easy solutions to hard problems, and these goons know it. So they make these promises to gain power, only to follow their own, hidden, agenda once they get it.

  2. "I don’t know what the Brexiteer press are bleating about" Having Le Pen in power would have given the Brexiteer media a definite enemy to blame the failure of Brexit on. Currently the restraint with which the EU treats the UK means they have no cause for complaints. They will still complain, but Le Pen would give them real cause. Brexiteers are not at all interested in damaging the country. They are only interested in being able to blame someone else for it.
