  1. Personally, I think the EU as a block will just let Lizzy do her thing, knowing the UK will implode when the financial services are moved from the UK to inside the EU by mid 2024. That will be the mother of trade wars. Truss's behaviour will be an extra incentive to go through with it. HOWEVER, individual countries like France may well feel the need to apply strict controls or sanctions on the UK, as much EU-UK and EU-IRL trade passes through France. So the question is not even if the EU has the stomach to start a trade war, but if individual EU members feel that need. Seeing how Lizzy treats the French, there is little doubt Macron will hit hard when she invalidates the TCA, as he is fully entitled to. And he may well work in concert with other north-sea countries like the BeNeLux and Germany. And the USA.

  3. Absolutely right. And the point of impact will not be this bickering about A16. It will be the removal of the heart of London's financial services industry to inside the EU by mid-2014 (when € transaction clearing will no longer be allowed outside EU soil). That will hurt the UK very, very much.
