@Willywin Any snowflake can decide to feel hindered or inconvenienced by a protest. Does that mean all protests should be banned? Some people inconvenience me just by breathing. The right to protest is one of the hallmarks of a free state. It is just as important as the right to free speech (i.e. to speak against government without fear of retaliation). When those rights are limited, you know you are well along the way to an authoritarian regime.

Looks like 1984 picked a date about 40 years too soon.

@playcloudpluspc Let me break the news to you: you have already lost your democracy. Only a small minority wanted Brexit to go the way it did, yet it does. Only a small minority wants the NHS treated the way it is, yet it was. A minority of voters voted Tory in the last GE, many more voted opposition, but Tory has a huge majority in Parliament. And I could go on. The 2019 GE was the last chance you had of keeping a form of democracy, and you let it slip. The UK will need to go through hell and back before you get another chance. I feel for you.

@FuriousImp It is happening as we speak. The US has temporarily escaped, but the UK is well down that path. Other nations as well: Hungary, Poland. And in others nations more and more people fall for the lies. Like in the NL, people voting for FvD.

A constitution would not help you. You need direct representation. And you need good media, who tell things as they are instead of misleading the sheeple.

It is not the time to stand firm. It is the time to do something. Like pointing out the outrageous things government does to your friends & neighbours. Or to protest for real.

@kirishima638 "Extreme economic conditions lead to popularism" And sadly, popularism leads to oppression. People should learn from history.

@pam-gw6uk No it is not. The opposition is doing what little it can. It is mainly due to the media towing the government lie so that people do not realise they are being abused.

You hit the nail on the head.

@corneliusantonius3108 For a time. Fascistic regimes usually don't last very long.

@therealrobertbirchall Yeah. "We are unsure if this person will be a suitable leader, so we vote for the one we know isn't". In the end, UK voters only have themselves to blame.

@NLTops Well put. Yes, real democracy comes with a lot of debating before decisions are made. But I'd rather have that then relying on some potentate. UK democratic culture is just as toxic as that in the USA, perhaps even more so. A direct result of their undemocratic election system.

@therealrobertbirchall Let us hope the UK one implodes a lot quicker. But implode it will.
