  2. Re saluting: It would not be proper for Zelenski to salute the men, as he is a civilian, not in uniform, and bare-headed. A civilian does not have authority to do a military salute. Nor does a military person that is not in uniform or without head covering. In Europe, we honour such conventions, it may be different in the USA. For example, we all see your president salute men regularly.

  4. One reason for the discrepancy between Ukrainian figures and these figures is that many of those fighting on the Russian side were (force) mobilized from the annexed Ukrainian regions. It is a form of genocide, and helps keep Russian deaths low. It is also what awaits the rest of Ukraine should (God forbid) they lose. Having their male population drafted into the Russian army to fight the next Russian war.
