  2. I sincerely hope the new leader will send Putin on to The Hague. But I am afraid he will want to make sure Putin has no chance of being rescued by some group of loyalists.

  3.  @osric1730  True, but that is how epiphanies work. They shake you to the core. It takes time to work through the consequences. Periods of denial are a normal part of it.

  4. To put Russian casualties in perspective, they have lost more soldiers in these two and a half years of war than the USA did during all of WW2. Granted, WW2 lasted less than 4 years for the USA, but it is a staggering number. And still they call it a "special military operation", and you can get arrested for calling it anything else.

  6. The last time anyone negotiated with Putin was in Minsk, 2015. When he violated that accord, he demonstrated himself to be totally unreliable.

  7. History has been showing a consistent trend towards democracy for all for at least 4 centuries. There have been temporary regressions (Napoleon, US civil war, Hitler, etc), but the current batch of dictators will fail like those before them. But it will be a struggle. Freedom needs to be won.

  8. The USA is most definitely going to lose influence over this. Just imagine Putin and Trump making a deal, and then Ukraine says NO! That would be the ultimate humiliation of the USA. That is why normal diplomats ensure that any deal they propose is acceptable to all parties involved -- before they propose it.

  9. Putin is deeply afraid of Ukrainian insurgents. Which is why he is terrorising the lands he captured even worse than Hitler or Stalin did.

  10. Apart from the Harpoon, by establishing air dominance the F16 Ukraine will also be able to deploy anti-submarine helicopters. That is a fifth way the F16 can impact the battlefield. Russia uses submarines to launch cruise missiles at Ukrainian cities.

  11. The USA became great because its allies trusted it. That trust is now gone. This will even hurt companies like Microsoft. I don't think it will be long before the EU forbids its governments to use any Microsoft, Google or Amazon services, and develop viable alternatives to use instead.
