  1. When we started building with steel, we had some catastrophic failures due to metal fatigue. Now we have learned to test for metal fatigue and have rules when to replace the part. The fatal error of OceanGate was that they used a material that was going to fatigue but without methods for measuring it or determining when a hull should be replaced. That made it certain that at some point, it was going to collapse.
