8:20 -- love that still image. It is obvious that Carano is the pro, and "Mando" the amateur.

Exactly. Let her create her own franchise instead of corrupting an existing one. I'm fine with her becoming hugely successful on her own merits.

This writer is discovering what KK should have discovered long ago: submit to the Vision or leave. The Vision from the original creator, that is. Not one of his underlings gone rogue.
5
Now that is a good indication of what is going on behind the scenes.
4
The light side has won!

KK planning to create a new production company: excellent news! Taking her acolytes in Lucasfilm with her: even better! Don't blame me if I will wait for good reviews by e.g. the Critical Drinker before I watch any of them...
3
When will Lucasfilm learn that more power is not the same as better stories? Overpowered main characters are not interesting. Luke Skywalker's power relative to other Jedi is not relevant or even interesting. His arc is. Overpowered characters have no arc.
2
Why not? If they ask her nicely (i.e., beg on their knees)? As a business woman, she should use this as an opportunity to negotiate a much better deal, including a say in the scripts.
2
Since when did looking weak became an issue for executives? The bottom line is much more important than that. You can usually depend on a business doing what makes money. Certainly in the long run. And for some executives, doing what is right is also important. Let's hope they do right by Carano: she did not deserve to be fired over her opinions. However misguided the parallel she used, she did ask for moderation and acceptance of each other, and she should be commended for that.
2
That is not how companies operate.
2
Katheleen K and Larson must be proud of themselves. They are literally destroying a universe.
2
If you think she did nothing wrong, you need to read her last post. She compared a natural backlash that is the result of the GOP's actions, with the biggest crime of the last 100 years.
2
The sheer fucking hubris of these women.
2
Don't let KK turn you off from historic films! Her input in these movies was very limited. Fact is, she is at her best getting coffee for true creative leaders.
2
The comparison went lame, because the current animosity against GOPers is because of what a few of them actually did. They perpetrated an actual violent coup. The animosity against Jews in the 30ies was because of their race and had no grounds in anything they had done. Also, anyone can decide that enough is enough with the corruption and sleaze in the GOP and leave them, but no-one can change their race. And the final insult in that comparison is that if we compare policies and tactics, the GOP is very much akin to the NSDAP, with people of color taking the place of Jews.... HOWEVER, I do agree with Carano's main point, that we must not demonize each other. But actually that is a point the GOPers need to take to heart more than most Democrats, seeing how their leaders demonize Democrats every opportunity they get.

@meldraghart "Jew is not a rase (sic)" It may not be in your mind, but it certainly was in the mind of a Nazi. What determined if you went to the gas chambers or not was whether your mother was a Jew, regardless of your own religion. To quote a Nazi: "Anyone can switch religion to avoid persecution." There are cases of Christian families where the children were gassed because their mother was from Jewish stock, and there were complex rules to handle cases of mixed blood. What mattered was the bloodline, not the religion your ancestors practiced. Also, Nazi propaganda treated Jewishness as a race, with talk about blood purity, Untermenschen and so on. Never a word about the religion. Glad I could clarify that.

Some people are so sad. They think messing with peoples' lives is some joke as it is 'virtual'. Glad you are OK, keep up the good work, I enjoy your videos.

I was expecting this to happen. The ousting of Carano is hurting the Disney bottom line. However, I doubt she will be eager to come back. She may have a demand or two. Like KK's head on a platter.
1
Brie Larson becoming the most powerful Jedi ever: that was to be expected. So sad, with the Jedi it was never about their 'strength'. Humility and strength of character as opposed to physical strength used to be more important. In this series, it seems we are back to the laws of the jungle. Reminds me of the USA at this time.
1
She probably believes that the world needs re-educating and that she is the Chosen One to do that.
1
It is right that KK says creators are more in touch with their creation than the fans. But she is wrong in calling herself a creator -- especially as she rejected the input from the Creator.
1
Comparing the backlash against republicans following the 1/6 insurrection, with the persecution of Jews in Hitler Germany, is extremely offensive. I am sure she did not try to offend humanity on purpose, but she did. However, a simple apology should be enough to get her back at Lucasfilm.
1
@18661873 Sure. Several thousand at least! Making movies to cater to their sensitivities is fine, and I am fine with KK being hugely successful in her niche. Just as long as she doesn't betray the trust that has been given her, like she did with Lucasfilm.
1
Personally, I would feel vindicated if I were re-hired by Disney after KK firing me. You make movies for the fans, not for the managers. And I feel Carano was unjustly fired. She used a lame comparison to make a valid point. That was not so smart, but no reason to fire someone.
1
Oh, dear, she is offended with the fans. Does she feel that she is entitled to some respect for her wonderful creative ideas? She needs to grow up and learn how the world works. Fans get to choose what they think about creatives, and creatives should listen to them, at least respect them. Who pays, decides. That is the ancient law of free enterprise. We are free to take our money elsewhere, and completely ignore any creative, especially those that insult what we hold dear. And before we take our money elsewhere, we are free to bitch and moan and complete take apart your 'creative' ideas. A wise creative takes heed when we do that. KK's legacy will be complete wiped away by Disney after they get rid of her.
1
I think the fallout from the firing, and the failure of ep 9 taught them not to try such a stunt. No, if Disney steps over their corporate pride to beg her to come back, she'll be treated like royalty. In fact, Carano will probably be in a position to demand a say over the scripts in her new contract!
1
People depending on mob violence (even if verbal) are always weak.
1
The freedom to make mistakes comes with the duty to apologize when you cross the boundaries of decency. Carano's latest remark crossed that boundary. She shouldn't be cancelled, by I understand why she was fired. A sincere apology should get her back in business.
1
This whole toxic politics thing is destroying the USA. People are not bad for what they believe. They are bad for what they DO. And there are courts to deal with that. People should leave their politics at home, not take them to work.
1
In my book, you are not fired until officially notified by a company manager with sufficient authority. If Disney unilaterally elected not to honor its contracts with Carano without even informing her, her lawyers will have a field day in court. BTW: in any country with decent worker protection, her lawyers would have a field day anyway for firing someone over their personal opinion.
1
As well they should! KK treated her shamelessly.
1
Disney is handling this situation extremely unprofessionally. Darth Kennedy needs a good talking to by either Bob. Tolerating this strife between Favreau and Kennedy is bad for business.
1
Carano's post was very dumb. She compared people suffering the consequences of their actions with people being persecuted to the death for their race. Obviously, this insulted a large portion of humanity. She intended to address hate, which is fine, so I will accept an apology from her. GOPers need to realize that they have been sowing fear and hate for decades. They should not be surprised when it comes back to haunt them. But hey, take some responsibility, turn away from the terrorist organisation the GOP has become, and no-one will bother you.
1
I thought Ridley was a fine actor, esp in the first sequel. The problem is not Ridley but the creative choices by Lucasfilm.
1
Hollywood is about making money, not about educating correct politics or liberating the oppressed. KK is killing Disney's bottom line, she needs to be fired. Here's to hoping the Stockholders will demand she is ousted.
1
I see where Carano is coming from. I disagree with her views, and her latest post is certainly cause for dismissal as it was an extreme insult to the biggest tragedy of the past 100 years. However, I don't think she was aware of how that comment would be taken by large groups of the world. A simple (sincere) apology would be acceptable for me to see her back at Lucasfilm.
