Out of a short barrel, as well...

So, Ian is confessing to having hit his wee brother with this sword?

It turned out to be a great movie! Ian forgot to explicitly answer the question in the title, but to fill it in for him, there was not very much at all wrong with the rifles in the movie. You did well, Sir!

When adding a chaingun to a drone, the battery is already there, that makes the weight disadvantage a lot smaller.

Amazing that these ancient guns were calibrated to shoot out to 1200 meters. Different times...

Excellent interview, very insightful. Conclusion: Ukraine needs more force-multipliers, and more abilities to take the battle to western Russia.

Not something I would gladly put against my cheek... I have had a tiny 100uF capacitor blow on me once...

Great one! It's about time the Chuck Norris thing got revived.

The microphone has a device called a "limiter/compressor" where the volume is turned down very quickly when it becomes too loud. The Fyoom at the end is when the volume is turned back up as things become quiet again. You may also notice how the volume is cut a few times during the introduction when firing from the shoulder, when someone nearby fires single shots. The limiter cuts out about half a second. After that, you hear the echos and reverberations you would not normally hear through your ear muffs, which are much softer than the actual shots.

I disagree with #1: Plenty of great ideas were born in a bar!

Your depth of knowledge is amazing. Very interesting to see the historic detours en-route towards the "modern" configuration of a rifle. I would have loved to see a cartridge that goes with the gun, however...

@patrikhjorth3291 After completing a fire mission, the drone should return to reload anyway. If that drone can not carry a large battery, it can neither carry a lot of ammunition.

There is no difference between reality and theory, in theory.

Dutch parliament has a long history of not having a clue about the military... They usually spend less than they should, only to start a spending spree when it is too late. But what else would you expect from a country where a bean counter gets more respect than a Marine...

Such a good point to STOP when something odd happens. It saved my brother's bacon once. He was shooting hand-loaded 45 ACP through a Colt Government. One of the rounds went a quiet "pop" and didn't cycle the gun. The range master immediately stopped him and got him to unload & inspect the gun, and it turned out the bullet had stuck in the barrel. Had he tried to fire another round, that would have destroyed the gun and probably wounded him. <edit: Turns out you discuss this exact case as second after I paused to type this comment>

I guess German doctrine did not put much emphasis on concealment. That dust cloud reminds me of that Johnny English bit: "Agent in distress -- I am here"

Is this the gun that the later shows of "The A-Team" used? It looks a lot like it, but weren't the A-team guns shinier?

3:10 I see why this gun is known for its malfunctions. Quite a number of shells only barely managed to clear the ejection port before the bolt came down again.

I once was fishing, and noticed someone shooting in the distance. Then I noticed what I first thought was some very local rainfall around me. Then I noticed the correlation between a shot and the "rainfall". I didn't even know there was a range in the distance, but apparently someone was practicing shooting clay pigeons without taking the environment into account. I don't think I was in any danger, and I didn't get hit, but I certainly was shocked. I must have been very young, as we moved away from that town when I was 6, but I very clearly remember the incident.

This is exactly the reason why there is "additional manufacturing": to work around (planned) obsolescence.

Thanks for this video, very interesting.

@Intelwinsbigly Who needs a long rifle when you have such a small country ;-)
1
@Intelwinsbigly The Netherlands are less than twice the size of New Jersey.
1
The flying gas block is actually a feature to prevent full-auto use ;-)

A safety that does not latch. These guys really wanted people to die, didn't they.

Toys for the boys....

"They get rid of the heads" -- probably they use it for fuel. Why waste a good resource?

Always a fount of intriguing factoids...

I read about this gun in the eighties, I had been wondering what happened to it.
1
Wow, that is NOT a subtle gun.

"Everything wrong with ..." is normally a click-baity title. Obviously not with Forgotten Weapons. So, the answer to the question is -- not very much. But that was already obvious from the short run time.
