Somehow, the GOP thinks it can decide that half the nation is unpatriotic and dangerous to the US? Inciting hatred like the GOP has done, should be a crime. It is in many nations. And no, look carefully, the Democrats have not debased themselves to demonizing the GOP. They haven't fabricated total lies like the GOP has done. They haven't cancelled people as "unpatriotic" or even "fascist", where the GOP can be called fascist much more than the Democrats can be called Communists.

  14. This is extremely difficult for parents that have young kids, especially with low-paid jobs. They have to literally choose between starving and being evicted from their homes, or putting their lives at risk from the virus. These people need help from the government.

There recently was a spree of dismissals of people responsible for these audits.... The key thing is that Barr has blocked all reporting to congressional oversight committees. These committees are the only ones who could have stopped this, and Barr has effectively blocked them. The court cases about this are being dragged out ad-infinitum, in spite of Barr having zero authority to block the committees from performing oversight. The USA is in dire need of constitutional reform.

  20. The "D" in PhD stands for Doctor, just as the "D" in MD. People without a PhD, MD or other doctorate (DBA, DSc, DTh etc.) should not be called Doctor, but I understand the term is devalued in the USA and is applied to any teacher of college level or above. In my country that would be a crime: no-one is allowed to have him/herself called Doctor without having achieved the degree.

  27. Totally agree. But this man-child will push for the boundaries of what he can get away with, until someone pushes back. So if he does these things, it is time to let the SCOTUS decide what exactly are the limits to the presidential pardon power. And pray that the ruling will make sense. For without good, legal limits to the presidential pardon power, the president is above the Law, and the Executive Branch is the leading Branch of Government, with the other two branches its humble servants. It would make the president the supreme power in the land, an actual dictator. And that is not what the Constitution was written for.

  28.  @maxxray3665  It does matter for jurisprudence' sake. It needs to be made clear that there are limits to what a president will do, or else the next dictator will succeed. There is a whole list of Trump actions that need to be scrutinized by SCOTUS, like Trump instructing his government to ignore lawful Congressional Subpoenas, and Barr holding that a President can not be indicted while in office.

The point I wanted to add to yours (Trump will be prosecuted at the state level regardless of pardons), is that it is important for posterity to determine on a federal level if what Trump did is legal or not. As such cases take considerable time, it is important to do them NOW so that the jurisprudence is there next time it becomes relevant.

At the level of these leaders, you are mainly a figurehead that sets the tone & principles for how the administration operates. Like CEOs, they take credit for many things, but are personally responsible only for facilitating the idea's of others. That is why any form of abuse of power is damning, as by doing that you betray the trust of those who appointed you and who work for you, on whose ideas you depend. It is the core of Corruption, people in power serving themselves instead of those who depend on you. Sadly, corruption has become the norm in the USA, in both ends of the political spectrum. But I am happy that the Democrats do at least something to address it.

It is impossible to prove assault or rape except for testimonies, so if you were right in dismissing testimonies, no-one would ever be convicted for rape or assault. consensual

  36. The role of the Senate in US politics is largely negative. It has way too much power at the moment. A number of changes are needed to make it do its job better. One is the removal of the Fillibuster, a second would be to mandate a proposed bill is either approved or rejected by the Senate within a specific deadline or else it is considered to be approved. There are hundreds of laws that were approved by congress only to die in McConnell's waste bin without the senate ever discussing it. All because it would look bad if the Republicans rejected something that has wide voter support. So they just left it to die without bringing it to a vote. The President has a 10-day deadline to sign a bill into law. Surely the Senate can be expected to handle a bill in say 3 months? Why is this important? Because Senate votes are public. If a Senator votes against something the citizens want, it will be noted and reported. Challengers can use it in campaigns. But if a bill is not voted on, people will never know. And even when attention is brought to it, they can simply blame other Senators.

  39. Thank you David for making this video. I am also a progressive Christian, and am very angry at the way these conservative christians are smearing the Christian faith. As your caller said, the conservative christian movement has departed from many of the central teachings of Christ, such as walking in Faith, Hope and Love, and "My Kingdom is NOT of this world". Many if not the vast majority of Christians all over the world are appalled at the level of mendacity, hypocrisy, bigotry, selfishness and racism in the GOP, and would never in their life vote for the likes of Trump, Cruz, and all these other republican clowns. Obviously, there is freedom of religion, but I do feel I have a duty to call out against these "christian" leaders. A true Christian leader will very rarely comment on the pros and cons of political leaders, but rather encourage people to pray for them regardless of their political ideas. Exceptions would be politicians who clearly mislead people to take advantage of them to the detriment of the nation, like Trump and the rest of the GOP.

  40. It would be great, but I fear it will not happen. If the GOP was not all on-board with Trump, he would have been kicked out last winter when he was impeached. In fact, the day the GOP gets fed-up with Trump, Mitch will confer with Pelosi, arrange a new impeachment for any of the many crimes Trump has committed, and bye bye Trump. It would be over in a few weeks if not days. I expect that either Trump or Putin has the whole GOP by the balls, except those that are the Lincoln Project.

That is called obstruction of justice. It think that the justice department will try to clean itself from the meddling and political appointees it got during the past 3 years. Part of that cleanup will be the settling of old scores, and the reinstatement of people like Mueller and those DA's that resigned following obstruction by Barr. Then they will make sure that no president will ever again be foolish enough to mess with the justice system like Trump and Barr have. Also journalists will go on a rampage digging up dirt on Trump and his accomplices. If they find illegal activities (which I am sure they will), that will lead to prosecutions. The only way to stop this would be for the Dems to explicitly forbid it. I don't think the Dems will do that (apart from it being illegal)... So, the Dems will not need to do anything. The only thing that is keeping Trump out of jail right now is his continued support by the republican senate. And this crazy idea that a sitting president can not be prosecuted. And the crazy idea that all information regarding the president (tax returns etc) are state secrets that fall under executive privilege. When those artificial barriers are taken down by a change of executive, prosecutors and journalists are going on a feeding frenzy. The USA needs that to regain the respect it lost under the orange baby. Trump has consistently insulted and belittled both the journalists and the judiciary. They are going to rediscover that they have teeth, and can bite and not let go. Trump is going to discover that too. A day of reckoning is coming for him and his cronies. IF he looses the election, that is. If not, I do not want to think about what will happen then. The end of the USA as we know it.

  46. Republicans have this weird idea that the inner goodness of people will rid the world of dire poverty and hardship, and that people who are in that situation are to blame for it themselves. History has proven that notion to be false. That is why the primary job of a government is to ensure the poor people are protected from abuse. That is why there is a legal system. The upper class doesn't need a legal system: they can protect themselves. The legal system exists to protect the weak whose rights are being abused. You wonder how Republicans can claim to be Christians, and how they can still sleep at night. People with seared consciences, they are.
