  7. The Tory makes a false argument that legislation was entered into the House without scrutiny under EU rules. The UK had, at that time, quite a number of elected MEP's whose job it was to ensure good laws were passed. So these laws did most certainly pass parliamentary scrutiny, with an additional option for a UK government veto. The Tories like to act that the EU did things without their consent. This is simply not true. The UK was, in its day, the most influential country deciding exactly what the EU did. Not a single law appeared on the EU statue book without UK approval.

  12. She won't play Bozo's game. She asked a question, he didn't answer. The question was, why don't you drop VAT right now like you promised you would. Bozo tried to deflect by going to his happy place, Brexit. Raynor get him back on the increased tax burden for working class people, which has nothing to do with Brexit but rather with Tory mismanagement of the economy. Calling out Bozo's lies in Parliament is tricky due to the rules forbidding MP's to call each other liars, even when they are. In a functioning democracy, it would be the press that crucifies a lying PM, and after that, his own back benchers.

  14. The speaker has no authority to do any such thing. If the PM is misbehaving, it is up to his Party to discipline him, or for Parliament to get rid of him through a vote of No Confidence. I do believe the Speaker has authority to keep a debate on topic, so he could stop these outrageous accusations against the members Opposite. That he should do.

  22. "It is safe in the USA" That is not a particularly good analysis. Geologically, environmentally and socially the situation in the USA is very different from that in the UK. So to just say "it is safe there, it must be safe here" is absurd. That is, even if you trust the colonials to do such an analysis properly for themselves.

  23. Getting back in the EU is not on the menu. The EU will not have you back until the UK / England has demonstrated an overwhelming and sustained desire to rejoin. Then, there will be a long period of re-alignment where a lot of unpopular demands will need to be met, like replacing the Pound for the Euro and modernizing the political system. It will take at least 20 years, far beyond the scope of a single government. Re-aligning with the EU will be the best Labour can offer. Then the next government can perhaps rejoin the Single Market and the Customs Union, but I think that will also require broad, bi-partizan support before the EU will even consider it. We do not want a situation where after 5 years the new government can just reverse its course and start this mess anew. Sad to say, the damage the Tories have done is both serious and permanent. And things will get worse before they can get better. Next step will be the dissolution of the UK, and a continued slide into authoritarianism for England. Or perhaps England will violently prevent dissolution, I don't know. In that case, the whole UK will be dragged down with England.

For accepting outrageous lies from the media. For trusting corrupt politicians. For not applying critical thinking, and for allowing those that did warn them to be ridiculed. For not protesting vigorously when it was time to do so. A nation generally gets the government it deserves. You want to be governed by men of wisdom and integrity? MP's should be free to vote as they see fit, free from any pressure or fear of censure. My (Dutch) constitution explicitly says so. Time for the UK to adopt a similar rule.

  44. The first thing to repair this country is to take the corruption out of it. There are MANY situations where vital public functions have been delegated to a commercial company for outrageous costs, with that company being invariably being owned by a Tory donor. That is what is wreaking the NHS, the water authorities, etc, etc, etc. Public functions can be outsourced ONLY if there is competition. A water authority has no competition while it holds the concession, so its job can not be performed by a for-profit company. And competition can not be only on price, quality or value-for-money must also be taken into account. For example water authorities are currently being paid to literally do nothing.
