  1. 4:00 We in Dublin could suggest to the brexiteers that the backstop was initially drafted to apply to Northern Ireland only. But of course (history is funny in its ways) the fragile UK government is a Tory-DUP coalition, and the DUP has "blood red lines" about the first backstop, so it extends as a UK-backstop as "May's deal", which the English politicians disavow. But the brexiteers won't care about the DUP or Northern Ireland, they would vote for the initial backstop if that means a Brexit for Great Britain.
