@Tuner775 The US equivalent of the SAS is actually Delta Force.

Strange, given SBS were the Royal Navy's special forces unit. Bunch of matelots...

How so?

@michaelhall8981 But, unlike the SBS, SAS Boat Troop's role is confined to beach assaults and river landings. The SBS has a wider scope of maritime expertise, such as underwater demolition, long distance submerged swimming, assaulting oil rigs and ships at sea, etc.

It was made in 1983.

In the 1970s and 80s SAS and SBS DID have long, non-military haircuts and facial hair. Hardly surprising, given they were trying to avoid looking like military personnel when on active duty in "civies". It always surprises me that people don't think things through. Doesn't it make perfect sense to NOT look like "the enemy"?

Not any more. They handed their role back to the SBS years ago...

The Indian Army Ghurka Regiment, no matter how much you wish it was, is not a Tier 1 special forces unit. The Royal Navy's Special Boat Service IS a Tier 1 unit.

Ha, ha...not funny. This film was made in 1983. They are not wearing wigs. They are simply sporting normal civilian haircuts of the time. 1970s and 80s. So would you if you were in a military unit that was carrying out an undercover operation. Are you seriously suggesting they should have have military-style short back and sides haircuts.

Why does it seem like a joke, exactly?
1
Really? Then how come it was made in 1983?

The SBS USED to be mainly made up of former Royal Marines. Not any more. Now SBS, and SAS (which used to be mainly ex-Parachute Regiment) accept personnel from across the UK armed forces as a whole.

"Acting was poor by squaddies". Perhaps because they are not actors (!). How good is YOUR acting...?
1
No, they're not. Guys really did wear their hair that long in the 1970s. I was in my twenties then and we all looked like girls from behind.
1
In what way? And how would you know anyway?
1
No, the SBS are not Royal Marines. They are the special forces unit of the Royal Navy. Granted, it used to be the case that most SBS were ex-Royal Marines. But these days the SBS, like the SAS (who used to be mainly former Parachute Regiment) have members from across the military.
