@garycullen7390 But what do you believe the advantages of nuclear power would bring? There are certain countries around the world which do not allow nuclear-powered ships in their docks. What happens in the event of a ship needing emergency repair? Also, nuclear-powered carriers, just like conventional carriers, still need to go into port to change crew, restock food and water, carry out routine maintenance, etc. And nuclear carriers are considerably more expensive than conventional carriers. So again I would ask, what specific advantage does a nuclear-powered carrier have?

Why? You automatically assume that being nuclear powered would somehow make them "better". But why do you think so? There are ports around the world which nuclear-powered carriers are not permitted to enter. Nuclear powered carriers are also hugely more expensive to operate than conventional carriers and besides they cannot in reality remain at sea indefinitely, since, like conventional carriers, they still have to return to port to allow crew relief and regular maintenance, not to mention the need to restock food and drink supplies. So the idea that nuclear-powered carriers are inherently somehow "better" than conventionally powered carriers is not true.

@neilt1889 But there are factors which you conveniently ignore. A nuclear-powered carrier, just like a conventional carrier, still needs to go into port regularly to change crew, restock on food and water, undergo regular routine maintenance checks and repairs...

Why do you feel the need to exaggerate? HMS Prince of Wales does not "keep breaking down". Also, you apparently don't know the history of HMS Hermes , or rather the several RN ships that have carried the name HMS Hermes. You appear to suggest that the HMS Hermes launched in the early 1920s was the same ship that fought in the Falklands war. Somebody's not done their homework! Slovenly work...

Why? HMS Victory is actually still a commissioned RN ship. Obviously, it is not a fighting ship of the RN. But because of it's huge historical significance it was never actually decommissioned. Pity it didn't occur to you to do a little research before making your comment.
