Presidents and Prime Ministers don't control economies like turning a tap on and off. That is simply not how economies work. If it were really that simple to ensure a President's political popularity all they need do is to pull the right economic levers to keep inflation and prices down. But it is far from that simple. Inflation and prices of oil and gas have risen around the world. It us not something that individual governments can control. Energy companies and food producers set the prices they charge for their goods, not governments.
